Counselor/Case Manager

american-school-counselor-association fThe Woodson counseling department strives to make sure all Woodson students’ social and emotional needs are being met.  Many services are offered as well as resources are provided to students on a daily basis.  Some of these services include: individual counseling, Second Step curriculum in which “each grade level features developmentally appropriate ways to teach core social-emotional skills such as empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.”  Some of the other services include group counseling, student mentoring which includes a Check and Connect system, and crisis counseling.  The counseling department works closely with the 8th graders as they make their transition to high school.  Students take interest inventories, create yearly plans and set goals for themselves, as well as participate in college tours.  To address college and career readiness, students are exposed to many diverse colleges/universities as well as exploring their own attributes to help them determine a career that may be of interest to them. Woodson’s counseling department collaborates on a daily basis with classroom teachers to ensure that all students are getting the appropriate services.  The counseling department provides resources to the parents and students as needed.  All activities and lessons are aligned with the ASCA (American School Counselor Association) National Standards.
